Kosmos

Soviet Union and Russia1961 to 2010

Kosmos is a family of light Soviet launchers from the Yangel design bureau in Dnipropetrovsk, built from the R-12 and R-14 missiles. Its most successful version, the Kosmos-3M, flies for more than four decades from Plesetsk and Kapustin Yar, placing hundreds of small military navigation, communications and calibration satellites, and later foreign small satellites, in low orbit.
