Deployed IKONOS-2 into sun-synchronous orbit from Vandenberg for Space Imaging, becoming the first commercial satellite able to resolve ground objects as small as one meter. The launch followed the April 1999 loss of near-identical IKONOS-1 when its payload fairing failed to separate.
