Vanguard SLV-2, carrying a 10 kg Lyman-alpha/geodetic satellite for the Naval Research Laboratory's Project Vanguard, launched from Cape Canaveral LC-18A on 26 June 1958. Premature second-stage cutoff after only about eight seconds of burn left insufficient velocity and the payload failed to reach orbit.
