Shavit

Israel1988 to 2025

Shavit is Israel's small solid-fueled launcher, built by Israel Aerospace Industries from Jericho missile technology. It launches westward over the Mediterranean, against Earth's rotation, so spent stages never fall on neighboring countries, and places Israel's Ofek reconnaissance satellites in their retrograde orbits. In 1988 it makes Israel the eighth country to launch a satellite on its own rocket.
