Energiya

Soviet Union and Russia1987 to 1988

Energia is the Soviet super heavy rocket built to launch the Buran shuttle and heavy military payloads, with a hydrogen-fueled core and four kerosene boosters that share their design with Zenit. It flies only twice: in 1987 with the Polyus prototype, which fails to reach orbit, and in 1988 with Buran, which completes an uncrewed flight and an automatic landing.
