Proton-M/Briz-M returned to flight after August's Briz-M failure, launching Intelsat 23 from Baikonur. The Orbital Sciences-built satellite replaced Intelsat 707 at 53 degrees West, providing communications coverage for the Americas, Western Europe and Africa.
